All eight Shells in Mortal Shell II

The eight named Shells are Tiel, Proxima, Genessa, Lazlo, Smert, Eredrim, Sariel and Gragu. The base-game description confirms eight lost warriors, and the Devout Edition Upgrade lists an Obsidian skin for each of these eight names. Together, these official listings establish the roster as checked on October 7, 2026.

Obsidian refers to the skin pack. It does not identify eight additional warriors or provide their unlock locations, stats or full skill trees.

Complete named roster

The names below follow the skin-pack listing. The final column points to a specific official reference, not a ranking or a complete ability description.

ShellConfirmed official reference
Tiel the AcolyteThe Open Beta listing identifies Tiel as a playable Shell in the opening region
Proxima the BroodseekerThe September 14 hotfix fixes getting stuck in the Biosampler animation
GenessaThe September 5 update changes Augmentation to prevent unlimited Resolve and Faithful Doubles
LazloThe September 14 hotfix fixes an infinite glitch involving Temperament
SmertThe September 5 update makes Grisha Summons freeze with everything else when using Miracle
Eredrim the VenerableThe August 29 update fixes Shoulder Bash leaving the primary weapon stowed
SarielThe September 5 update improves Thornfall in enclosed spaces and against moving or locked-on targets
GraguThe August 29 update fixes the Heart of Vatra visual following the player in sheep form

Tiel, Eredrim and Proxima’s titles also appear in the official gameplay reveal. The individual Proxima guide remains under review, so the roster does not link to it.

Finding and choosing a Shell

Steam describes Shells as warriors’ remains scattered across the world. Possessing them grants access to innate abilities and their individual stories. The official exploration description specifically points to discoveries away from the main path.

For a first playthrough, explore side routes and compare newly acquired abilities with your preferred weapons. That is practical guidance rather than a verified unlock route. The sources above do not establish an exact location or unlock order for all eight Shells, and a patch-note mention alone is not evidence for a strongest-Shell ranking.

Upgrades and respec after launch

The August 29 update makes Glimpses and Tarcores renewable, allowing every Shell and Tarstone to be upgraded in one playthrough. It also introduces Mether’s Severance: give it to Zhirelle to reset a Shell and recover its spent Glimpses. The September 14 hotfix adds use at the Genessa trainer; the September 24 hotfix fixes a gamepad soft lock when canceling the action.

These changes make old advice about permanently limited upgrade resources out of date. They do not establish a Shell’s numerical stats or optimal build. For broader context, see the New Player Guide and World Overview.
